This article was prepared by Charlotte Reading, PhD, in 2013. Since then, the term “Aboriginal” has been replaced by “Indigenous” when talking about First Nations, Métis, and Inuit peoples. Since the time of first contact with Europeans, Aboriginal1 peoples in Canada have experienced several forms of racism, which have negatively affected all aspects of their lives and well-being.
