Intercultural Wellness Series: Fighting Stigma and Finding Services
Navigating a new country is already a lot. When a family member has a learning disability, it can feel even more overwhelming, especially when you’re not sure where to turn or who to trust.
SIA has partnered with the Learning Disabilities Association of Saskatchewan (LDAS) to host an open, informative session designed specifically for newcomer families. Together, we’ll explore the tools and supports available in Saskatoon, talk honestly about the stigma that sometimes keeps families from seeking help, and hear directly from someone with lived experience as a newcomer navigating learning disability.
You’ll leave with a clearer picture of:
- What learning disabilities actually are (and aren’t)
- Why hesitation around diagnosis is common and valid
- What support options exist right here in Saskatoon
Featured Speaker: Brett Williams, M.Ed., R.Psych — Director of Program Service Delivery at LDAS, brings years of experience across education, health, and community mental health. He’ll be joined by a guest presenter sharing their personal story as a newcomer living with a learning disability.
📅 March 10, 2026 📍 Online 🕐 6:30 PM
This event is free and open to all newcomers and families. All are welcome.
